SECOND HALF OF "GREAT NORTHERN TOUR" HIGHLIGHTED BY BIG DIAMOND WIN!
JUNE 30, 2008 --- The Lanigan Autosports, Inc. team capped off the "Great Northern Tour" last week with three World of Outlaws Late Model Series shows in New York and Pennsylvania. Darrell Lanigan charged by four cars during the $7,000 to win A-Main at the Canandaigua (NY) Speedway on Tuesday night, June 24 to earn a strong fourth place performance behind winner Josh Richards, Rick Eckert, and Tim McCreadie. A night later, Darrell visited victory lane at the Big Diamond (PA) Raceway! The Union, Kentucky native won his heat race and then led laps 34-40 to record the $7,000 triumph over Clint Smith, Josh Richards, Shane Clanton, and Rick Eckert!
The #29 team then invaded the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania over the weekend for the 2nd Annual 'Firecracker 100.' The premier event was scheduled to be a two-day show on Friday and Saturday, with the winner pocketing a cool $40,000. Darrell was eleventh fastest of the 62 entrants during qualifying on Friday night, June 27 and later won his competitive heat race. Unfortunately, Mother Nature invaded the area on Saturday and Sunday and forced the postponement of the 'Firecracker 100' until Tuesday night, July 29. Darrell came out of the "Great Northern Tour" leading the heated WOOLMS point battle over Josh Richards and Rick Eckert. The mega-event at the "Big E" once again boasted a $100,000 top prize. Darrell Lanigan timed in nineteenth quickest of the 122 entrants during qualifying on Friday night, June 6. When the action resumed at the 1/2-mile, high-banked oval on Saturday, Darrell was running a strong second in his heat race when the motor expired underneath the hood of his #29 Rocket. Unfortunately, his 'Dream 100' aspirations were over following the mechanical troubles and he was forced to watch the 100-lap A-Main from the stands.
